Topics
Digitalization is a comprehensive, socially relevant process that increasingly permeates all spheres of human life and work. Consequently, digitalization influences and changes both the fulfillment of KIT's core tasks and the work itself. This concerns in particular the design of the associated structures and standards for the centralized and decentralized digital services and their support at KIT.
Research and Innovation
KIT's digital information infrastructure supports the performance of research at an international level and significantly promotes innovation. It enables scientists to develop and establish digital scientific processes, methods, and procedures. The IT Steering Committee for Research and Innovation identifies needs, prioritizes, and drives digitalization topics.

Higher Education and Teaching
Higher education and teaching are characterized by the use of digital media. For students, the use of digital media has become common use, an everyday normality. Teaching and studying at KIT involves joint action on-premise, using digital media. User requirements are captured and conducted through the Steering Committee for Digitalization in Higher Education and the Committee for Digitalization.

Administration
According to the KIT 2025 strategy, administrative processes at KIT should support the core tasks of research, teaching and innovation in an efficient, timely and cooperative manner and be transparent, standardized and streamlined, among other things. Digitalization is intended to optimize processes, expand self-service portals, and extend the use of digital documents.

Cooperative Information Technology
A large part of all processes at KIT spans both decentralized and centralized units and uses the IT infrastructure as a platform. A well-functioning cooperative IT system has to take into account, for example, information risk management, IT workstation support models, the connection of decentralized systems to central administrative systems, the reduction of ‘shadow IT’ and software procurement.

Information Security
Due to the increasing digitalization of processes and workflows at KIT, the dependency on IT systems is growing. Therefore, in the future, the focus must be even more on IT risks and information security. The goals of confidentiality, integrity, and availability must be ensured within an appropriate framework.

Online Access Act (OZG)
The German Online Access Act (OZG) is intended to make the administrative services of the federal and state governments user-friendly, digital and centrally accessible. The federal and state governments—and therefore the universities—are obliged to offer their administrative services, which citizens can use, electronically.
