The central objective of this project proposal was the development of a domain-specific, modular, workflow-based solution with the working title Kadi4x, with structural steel construction serving as the primary analysis domain (Karlsruhe Data Infrastructure for Steel Construction Research). The aim was to develop an electronic laboratory book with a repository, suitable for connection to existing testing machine infrastructures. Both the technical and procedural foundations for two different types of component testing were to be developed, based on the existing prototype of Kadi4Mat. In the area of technical implementation, two application scenarios were addressed - the semi-automated archiving of building material parameters and for data from fatigue tests.

For the existing release processes for test orders at VAKA, the actual process was first recorded in a flow chart and then a target process adapted for fully digital research data management was developed. In addition, two standard processes were developed for the data storage of building material parameters and fatigue test results.

The necessary functional enhancements to the existing electronic laboratory notebook Kadi4Mat were successfully implemented and used in a prototype of an automated workflow with a connection to the Kadi4x repository. The Kadi4x repository was also expanded to include functions for providing workflows.

The Kadi4x project was an initial project for the field of civil engineering and a first step towards permanent implementation. The project joins the activities of Kadi4Mat, which are already in an exploitation phase due to their longer development history.
